Grodzisk Wielkopolski – Selected monuments

polish town hallThe oldest part of Grodzisk Wielkopolski is the Old Town. Its shape resembles a square and it has 8 main streets (2 on every corner). Buildings located there are not really old, as they were built during the end of the 19th century. In the very center of the Old Town, there is the town hall. It is a three-storey building created in the first half of the 19th century. It has always been an important place for the citizens and the office of the authorities has also been situated here. Up to 1992, there was a police station in the. Between 1996 and 1998, the town hall was being completely renovated and a small tower on roof was added.

polish city picsAt the front of the office of the authorities of Grodzisk Wielkopolski, there is the Bernard from Wabrzezno Well located, being one of the symbols of the town. The image of the well often appears on promotional logos and brochures advertising the town of Grodzisk Wlkp. Formerly, the well was taken advantage by the local brewers. polish town picturesSince the second half of the 19 century, the well has had a wooden casing, which was additionally renovated at the end of the 20th century. At the very beginning of the Szeroka Street, an eclectic house from the 19th century can be found. This building is characteristic due to its red brick construction, loggia located over the entrance, as well as a mansard roof. Currently, the Various Crafts Centre has its seat in the building.

disctrick court architectureIn terms of architecture, some breathtaking buildings may be found near the Żwirki i Wigury Street, namely – a neo-Gothic building of county office and neo-Baroque district court. They were both built in 1905. Near 3 Maja Street, there are two buildings created in the late 19th century, which serve mainly educational functions. polish town grodziskThose are the Juliusz Słowacki High School and the lower high school, where a primary school was operating for quite a long time. Near the Kolejowa Street and opposite the Culture Center, an interesting building can be found, which is called the Andrzejewski’s Palace. This object was built in 1896 by Franciszek Andrzejewski and it is characteristic due to the implementation of some eclectic elements from the early Secession period, as well as due to incorporation of decorative bas-relief ornaments into the elevation.

On the football stadium, which remembers the football matches of the Polish First Division in 1997-1998 and 1999-2008 (team name: Groclin Dyskobolia), there are vintage wooden tribunes made in 1925.
Polish WindmillIn 2011, near the Europejska Street there is an old mill, which may be considered a reference to the local windmill industry tradition. More than 100 years ago in neighborhood of the town, there was over of a dozen of buildings of such kind. Even in 1980s, near the Zbaszynska Street, there was a well-preserved object, which was unfortunately destroyed in the next decade.
